Desert Valley Hospital in Victorville, California was renovating it’s Radiology Department to incorporate new radiology imaging equipment. The new equipment required that the existing ceilings be raised. The design team was in need of accurate information on the existing SMEP (Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) systems in the above ceiling plenum space.
Architectural Resource Consultants (ARC) performed an HDS (High Definition Survey) 3D laser scan and delivered a 3D AutoCAD as-built model that was to be used by the design team.
Scanning took place during off-peak hours but the facility remained fully operational. The area scanned was approximately 1,000 square feet and took six hours to document, including the removal and replacement of the ceiling tiles. The finished model and deliverables were ready within five days of the completed field operations.
Deliverables included a 3D geometric model of the plenum space derived from the laser scan data, TruView imagery, and color QuickTime movies.
