Eastside Christian Church set out to create a new campus style setting for its congregation. A 20-acre site was selected in Anaheim, California that was the 200,000 s.f. former home of Boeing Defense Systems.
The new campus includes a 2-story 3,000 +/- seat auditorium, gathering spaces, a chapel, secure spaces for children, classrooms for adult connection groups, and student ministry venues.
Initially, Architectural Resource Consultants (ARC) was contracted by the general contractor to do a traditional field survey and 2D floor plans. As the client’s needs developed, ARC was later contracted to perform an HDS (High Definition Survey) 3D Laser Scan and deliver a 3D Revit BIM as-built model for construction trade coordination purposes.
Upon completion of the existing conditions BIM as-built, ARC used the as-built model to create a construction BIM that was used for trade coordination. ARC built the new structural steel shop drawings which were linked into the as-built BIM. The modeling process for the construction BIM took about 2 months to complete. The general contractor then used this as the base for a federated model which served the construction team for weekly coordination meetings.
ARC also assisted in a dimensional analysis of the structure by doing CAD overlays of the waffle deck and the architect's floor plan.
