The construction of the New York Public Library began in 1895 and its doors were opened to the public in 1911. At the time, it was the largest marble building in the United States.
Architectural Resource Consultants (ARC) was hired to provide modeling services and deliver a Revit model of the building. The scan-to-BIM was focused mainly on architectural elements rather than MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) elements.
The survey control for the project, upon which everything was based, was provided by the client.
Obtaining a high level of accuracy in the final Revit model was a priority and for this reason the coordinate system for this project was crucial.
ARC provided the client with a CAD file exported from Revit as well as screenshots of the Revit model overlaid with the point cloud in order to help demonstrate the model’s level of accuracy (LOA). This demonstration was also used to give the client a level of confidence in the Scan-to-BIM workflow being used to create the CAD model.
A total of about 330 hours was dedicated to the modeling process illustrating the efficiency of the Scan-to-BIM workflow in representing so much space so quickly.
