Architectural Resource Consultants (ARC) was hired to provide (High Definition Survey) HDS 3D laser scanning services for the existing Terminator 2 ride at Universal Studios theme park. In order to capture all the necessary information, ARC needed to obtain data from both traditional surveying and laser scanning. An outside team of professional land surveyors was hired to perform the traditional survey. The traditional
surveying was used to document spot elevations and client identified dimensions. Laser scanning was used for this and also to create partial 2D as-built floor plans and reflected ceiling plans.

Scanning took place at the catwalk level in order to capture information such as steel structure and ductwork. This information could also be extracted later, if needed, from the same data set. The 2D partial floor plans were also generated for the theater, back-of-stage, pre-board, pit wall under the stage, below theater seating, and the outside back-of-building area near the stairs. The 2D partial reflected ceiling plans were created for the underside of the theater catwalk system, pre-
board area, and back-of-stage.
